Organization
When you are organized it makes it easier to manage the classroom.
Things run so much smoother in a classroom when the instructor and the students are organized. Disorganization takes away from the learning. If you have everything laid out and written down you won't miss anything important.
I have a structured lecture time for each day, covering the necessary topics. But I also leave a bit of time each day for the students to work on homework, get some extra help, or for the class to play a game (pertinent to the course topic). They often come into class and ask if it's a gameday. They know the structured routine and the possibility of some fun activity.
Melissa,
Preparation is power in teaching. Not only do we have to be prepared, we have to make sure our students see us as prepared. The two do not always align.

I to feel that being organized is a huge part in not only your success as an educator but the success of your students. Coming into your classroom prepared and well focused will help keep your students on track and will also help them to see that being well prepared can make their time in class and school much easier.
We need to work as a team in order to achieve the common vision of our organization.
TO have some organisation and structure in your classroom, will assist you to maintain order, positiveness and motivation among the students. Wit that said, a very rigid, military type regime is not advisable as you have to have flexibility and change some tiems according to the mood and expectancies on a daily basis.
I always come 30mn before my class to pick up my product, also i have a group of students thas i use for sous chef and help to prep and cut what ever i need for my demo for the day.

Students need and want structure with some flexibility.

I would also reccomend having a structure to the class - being provided on a daily basis including a timeline with duration of topic/activity of every subject item.
You have to lead by example. You need to be on time so when they start they understand about being on time. Being on time and organized is very important becuase it helps you succeed.
I always come at least 30mn before the student and prepare my class,Using the white board, preparing my tools, have the print out done if i have to give some.
