TEAM

Team is SO important to any organization. Loan Soldiers usually don;t last long. Everyone working togehter to achieve a common goal is what is needed.

Lora,

As a dean, I used to ask members of each department to come talk to the academic team once per term. It helped keep everyone in the loop. Teachers understood why financial aid needed to see students. It helped when we had our admissions folks review the recruiting process and role play a visit.

Jeffrey Schillinger

Most challenging thing we face as a team is not understanding the other persons function and what it takes to get it done. Granted we are not and should not be trained in everyone elses jobs, but I think it is a hinderance not to haev some sort of knowledge of what another does.

Along the same lines, lack of communication is a huge challenge. We work on this by having meetings where we all can meet and discuss issues and students who may need help. This is a huge help.

Marife,

What are one or two of the most common "issues" you face as a team? How does the team address the challenge?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I agree. I think Communicatiion is also key with a positive attitude will definately bring the team to thier goals much faster. I love it when our team of nurses add thier input and we can come up with an achievable goal with the students or just on how we can make issues that come up better.

Its important to take pride in your departments job but without demeaning other departments and keeping TEAM the focus.

Carol,

Where do you see the biggest areas of need (weaknesses) on your campus?

Jeffrey Schillinger

It does take a team to make an organization work.

Not everyone has the same talents so where one team mate is weak another is strong. By working together, things get accomplished.
