Part time

it is extremely difficult for part time staff to get the interaction with other faculty and staff to feel part of a common vision.

As an adjunct, I can understand part of your frustration. However, have you reached out? Is there a school club that you could help the faculty advisor manage? Even if you are the "back-up", such help is greatly appreciated. Do you arrive just a few minutes before your class and leave immediately after? Or do you stay at the school, perhaps a faculty workroom if one is available, to do work? You may start to develop a rapport with some other faculty members.

Years ago I started attending faculty meetings, although I was not required to attend as an adjunct. The first few meetings I sat there quietly, and most of the other faculty did not know who I was. Over time I became so involved in faculty meetings and school functions, several full-time faculty members commented that they keep forgetting I am only part-time. Just as we state our students need to take responsibility for their education, we need to take responsibility to interact with others.

Lance,

Adjuncts are not always available for all events, but it is great when you can be there.

I'm part time and not sure if I should be attending special events, nacho Friday, etc. I just keep in good communication with my supervisor and students. I teach one class every 9 months (at this job)!

Its true I'm part time weekends and work outside the school on extern and have a really hard time connecting with other instructors and the school. Meetings/work functions scheduled well in advance might help.

I agree, I think brainstorming to come up with ideas for day instructors to connect with night instructors would be helpful. I think an e-mail question of the week, originating from a Director or Dean then circulating to all instructors to comment on would be helpful to discuss how to handle certain situations and it would create team building. It would provide insight
