Everyone on the same page

It is vital for all departments have a shared goal or vision. Each department plays its own role in achieving it, but everyone is "rowing" is the same direction toward success.

Yes, I agree. every department should have a shared goal so we ALL know what is going on.

Its important that all department be on the same page if we are not going in the same direction then we will have a train wreck when it comes to retention and helping our student become successful.

Giovanni,

I am sure some conflicts / disagreements from time to time. Where are thos spots?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I agree. We must all be on the same page. In every departtment in order for it to be a well functioning machine. In our campus as well, we all get together everyweek and make sure we are all on the same page heading towards the same goal.

Jason,

Sometimes students equalte sameness with consistency. The campus needs to consistent processes and policies while allowing for individual differences in some areas. Students will likely experience different management styles during their careers. They need to be adaptable. That skill can sart in college.

Jeffrey Schillinger

It is also very important to have each individual within the department to be on the same page, too often I hear students say they don’t see enough consistency between instructors.

Helen,

Some groups have daily "roll call" meetings at the beginning and/or end of the day to discuss little things that come up during the day.

Jeffrey Schillinger

I think people just believe that they are "too busy" to tell the next person or department about something. We have an All Hands on Deck meeting monthly and a managers meeting weekly. There are still tidbits of info that should have been passed on but didn't. We need to utilize the tools that we have like emails, pen and paper or just saying something.

Victor,

I once heard a presenter state "... sarcasm is anger disguised as humor."

Jeffrey Schillinger

Victor,

Where are the biggest communication challenges at your campus?

Jeffrey Schillinger

completely true or else the company will be spinning it's wheels ,even if someone uses sarcasm as hummer all's it takes is some one else to take it in a wrong way and there can become a devalue of the company as a hole.

it is crucial for all department to communicate with each other so yes every employee is on the same page, and have a clear shared vision .

I completely agree. All departments must have the same goals and visions, like this module stated, if one person is not on board, it makes a significant (negative) difference. At my campus, we are lucky to have all departments work closely together for the common goal/vision.

Bruno,

Where are the biggest challenges to the cart going in the same direction for all of the departments at your school?

Jeffrey Schillinger

It is important for everyone to be on the same page. We need to pull the cart to the same direction.

Everyone must have the same goal or be on the same page. Growth, education, attrition and placement should be part of everyone's vocabulary.

Robert,

Too often, career college teams splinter because departmental goals seem to conflict. It is nice to hear about teams that work together.
