Using pretests as planning tools

Susan, Yes, you may find that alternative resources are needed. And also, you may find that some students will just need more attention in a certain category or topic. That's the nice thing about pretests, they help save time and assist the instructor to zero in where more (or less) attention is needed. Barry Westling

Reasons for evaluating students

Bibi, The feedback we provide students is as important as the content we are providing. Without feedback, students may be unsure of their progress, as in thinking their doing better than they really are, or are achieving a certain grade they desire but are far from it. Early on and frequent grade and class performance discussions are vital. Barry Westling

Nichole, That's certainly your call. To be fair, it'd have to be offered to everyone in class, and my experience has been that some weaker students will use the EC assignment as a replacement for their poor scores or missing assignments. Barry Westling

Organized and prepared to teach

Bibi, Students want and need guidance. When they perceive an instructor is less than fully prepared they are apt to take less than an active participation and may develop apathy towards the class, as they see that's what's occurring with their instructor. Barry Westling
