Activity

Susan, Right, and since we are interested in measuring student learning just about any method to assess that is accurate, fair, and reasonable, and that is within the scope of the course would be appropriate. Barry Westling
Susan, Yes, you may find that alternative resources are needed. And also, you may find that some students will just need more attention in a certain category or topic. That's the nice thing about pretests, they help save time and assist the instructor to zero in where more (or less) attention is needed. Barry Westling
Susan, Multiple senses used when learning increases retention, facilitates understanding, and assists with perfection of skills. Even in a classroom situation, a variety of senses can complement the instructional delivery and enhance lessons. Barry Westling
Susan, Great, knowing oneself can create the perfect learning situation; leading with our strengths, being comfortable with our duties and responsibilities, and having an awareness of weaker areas that can be worked on for improvement. The most benefecial recipient of course, is the student. Barry Westling
Bibi, The feedback we provide students is as important as the content we are providing. Without feedback, students may be unsure of their progress, as in thinking their doing better than they really are, or are achieving a certain grade they desire but are far from it. Early on and frequent grade and class performance discussions are vital. Barry Westling
Nichole, That's certainly your call. To be fair, it'd have to be offered to everyone in class, and my experience has been that some weaker students will use the EC assignment as a replacement for their poor scores or missing assignments. Barry Westling
Bibi, This is a great way to (possibly) keep interest, focus, attention, and engagement. At least they're involved with something related to class activities. Barry Westling
Nichole, Students can usually determine the relative value of an assignment, whether it's "filler" or truly meaningful material directly applicable to their course of study. Keeping material pertinent will result in better student outcomes. Barry Westling
Bibi, Lively classes engage students. Whatever we can do to liven it up can assist with keeping attention and interest. Video's are a terrific media to intermix with the PPT slides. Barry Westling
Bibi, Students want and need guidance. When they perceive an instructor is less than fully prepared they are apt to take less than an active participation and may develop apathy towards the class, as they see that's what's occurring with their instructor. Barry Westling
