Bibi, I believe students respect thoroughness, preparation and readiness, and by extension therefore, respect their instructor. The opposite is just as true. Barry Westling
Christa , Yes, lack of prepartion is a death knell to any instructor who consistently demonstrates this behavior. Barry Westling
Nestor, However we plan the delivery of instruction, reaching to students individually will assure we are able give full attention (along with intervention). I like your priority! Barry Westling
Angela, It's really a simple thing, students do better when they know their status and we can intervene to offer our ideas and suggestions. Although not literally true, an old saying goes, "If the student hasn't learned, the teacher hasn't taught". Barry Westling
Polly, Sequencing time for a given lesson can be difficult to predict precisely, so what we're really taliking about is planning. We can plan the lesson, but we can (and should) always have a back-up exercise or two planned in case unpected events result in having more time to use. Of course we want that to be productive use of student and instructor time. Barry Westling
Sean, I like this sentiment. When we're student-centered, we are actually committing to seeing each student served with a more realistic opportunity for success. Barry Westling
Polly, More senses plainly help students retain information better, longer, and with improved application. Barry Westling
Polly, For many career student instructors, students are paying out of pocket expenses for tuition and supplies. It would be insulting to have an instructor as apathetic as you describe. It almost seems unbelievable. Wow! Barry Westling
Joseph, Yes, we can never really prepare too much. Classes are so dynamic, and we may need to plan for more or less discussion, or unexpected, unplanned for events. Barry Westling
