Adding feedback that is individualized for the student, will be a source of learning. 

 

A syllabus is a dynamic document that can change depending on how the students are responding to the content.

 

Course consistancy is important. It is also important to make sure that each module takes approximately the same amounto of time time complete.

 

There are various types of learners in live, and e-learning. The disruptor, intimidator, quiet learner, etc. I have encountered each type. It was good to learn the best way to deal with each type of learner.

 

Synchronous discussions should be avoided when covering the bulk of important content. The advantage of asynchronous discussions is that it allows the students to formulate their responses in a concise and organized manner that demonstrates critical thinking. 

 

 

One aspect of the discussion board that I have struggled with is providing feedback in a timely manner. The 24-hour turn-around time is reasonable and I need to make this more of a priority.

 

Reply to Kianna Tinsley's post:Yes. The number one frustration, that I have found with my students, is the technical difficulties surrounding the online course.

I am in a mixed environment that involves e-learning and Zoom lecture/involvement. Our CMS contains all the components necessary for a quality online course. 

The manner in which an instructor carries out the delivery of the goals and content of each course may differ. However, prior to teaching a course, there are several important steps to consider: how the course is structured, the manner in which the content will be delivered, the roles/responsibilities of any guest lecturer, and strategies that will be utilized to carry out the delivery of the content.

I was able to utilize this knowledge today, while teaching Ethics in Healthcare. I know one of my students used to work for an insurance company.  A topic came up regarding what insurance would or would not cover regarding in vitro fertilization. I called on her to find out what she thought about the issue. I also utilized the knowledge of students who are interacting with leaders in healthcare regarding their views on staffing. This was done in my Leadership course.

 

As any professor can testify, there are many types of students in the classroom. Each student comes with strengths and challenges. The angry student is the most challenging for me. I sometimes forget that it is more important to gain respect than to be liked. We all like the encouraging comments from our students. The student who, after the second day of class says that you are not qualified to teach the course makes one re-examine what was said and done that may have jeapordized the respect.
