Susan, Employer panels are a fantastic idea-I am definitely going to recommend this to other participants. Elizabeth Kemler
Susan, I love job fairs! This is really an ideal way to connect the students with potential employers. Its especially great when the school itself sponsors them. Elizabeth Kemler
Susan, Thank you for pointing this out. I myself have to remind myself of the 5 Keys; its so easy to forget that we can (and must!) all continue to improve as professionals. Elizabeth Kemler
Kevin , This sounds like a great approach; using something positive as a means of connecting undoubtedly makes the students more receptive as does engaging them through these different modes. Elizabeth Kemler
David, I have certainly found this to be true, the question is, how do you get students to really believe it? The students may feel they don't have much of a professional network which is why I encourage teachers to help them build one-by taking the class to job fairs or other local networking events. Elizabeth Kemler
Traci, What an excellent idea. Do you ever have people from these organizations come to your classes to speak? Elizabeth Kemler
Leah, This is so true. I think one idea to help counter this is to have people come in from the various internship sites to talk about this. Hearing directly from future supervisors/employers can really make a difference. Elizabeth Kemler
Leah, You are so right. People rarely mention self-awareness with regards to interviewing but it is key..and good listening skills are also often overlooked so glad you mentioned it! Elizabeth Kemler
Leah, I agree that this is the best approach, so the resume/cover letters are targeted to the specific job vs generic. Elizabeth Kemler
Leah, This can definitely give a little boost of hope at the starting point of the job search-which as we all know can be long and arduous! Elizabeth Kemler
