Agnes, You are so right! So many of us seem to think they can get it done at the las minute. But when you look at the final product we are not happy and this brings on the stress. If you have good organizational skills with good time management you stress will reduce. Dr. Gary Carlson
Agnes, We can separate stress in to bad stress and positive stress. The negative stress is usually some trauma that relates directly to the emotions for you immediately. Health, accident or loss of life are extreme negative stresses. The stress in growth in you our your family that are usually personal or family achievements through hard work do not go without stress. I know that when my wife watched each of our children grow up and finally go onto to college was stressful. It was a happy moment but also a moment of loss. Dr. Gary Carlson
Carlos, I truly can identify with your stress reliever. I was raised in a farm community and know what a release it is to be outside with mother nature. I has all the ingredients of a balance to your life. The problem is that we some times forget what the good life is and not practice it. Your balance of spiritual rejuvenation, good health practices, mental pleasure and recreation will help you deal with both good and bad stress. Dr. Gary Carlson

Jerry, Change is the norm today. We all need to embrace change or we will be in deep distress. You have approached in correctly. The real challenge is to help your staff to embrace and own the change. Change can be fun with the ability to improve any work situation. Knowledge of the change helps all of us to understand the necessity to change. Gary Dr. Gary Carlson
Randy, Stepping back from the task is very good. You actually refresh yourself enough to do a better job. There are studies where they have found people who relax or even take a short nap perform at a higher level. Dr. Gary Carlson
John, Not all difficult interactions start out on a smooth path. Some are more like rocky roads. What is important is to measure the behaviour that happened before that the conversation which caused the emotion. If we have better knowledge of what raised the emotional level. Understanding and caring attitudes cause the emotion to subside to allow for a better opportunity for communication. Dr. Gary Carlson
Yvonne, When people learn these tactics are daily and are not real crisis your staff aren't ignorant. My best suggestion is that when you are consistent with when there is a crisis they know it must be one. High anxiety causes burnout of employees and they turnover. I have seen this in all casses where we use the motivation tool incorrectly. Dr. Gary Carlson
Discussion Comment
Yvonne, A crisis team or strategic team need to have people who have knowledge and high expertise in their field. My examples are results of a federal investigation and some of our schools that were directly hit by a hurricane. Our team was intstrumental in keeping operations at normal and getting the everyday perforance levels at a high. Dr. Gary Carlson
