david, Stress can be a motivator if you can see a positive at the end of the tunnel. If your stress is part of a trauma, personal loss, catastrophe or crisis it can be debilitating and harmful to your health. Professional help for negative stress may be needed. Dr. Gary Carlson
Madelyn, It is great to step back sometimes. When we can clear our minds and think without out pressure and take those valuable deep breathes of oxegen keeps us in a positive perspective. Great answer. Dr. Gary Carlson
Victoria, The most negative stress is from personal loss, trauma or crisis with catastrophe proportions, It does take some very good stress relief practices to contend with these. Motivating stress is with reward potentials in the end. We may be stressed but if we keep the eye on the light at the end of the tunnel with success reducces the negative to a positive. Richard, I believe the intention of all of us is to be successful. I am sure the new Director is hopeful to be successful at their new challenge. I have seen this transition issue before. I have been on both ends of tis situation. I always appreciated it when the past employee would refer all questions and direction to the new leader. We all need the opportunity to succeed. By your open communication you can advise but should never take on the roles you once had as a responsibility. What happens in the future is the building of a colleague… >>>

Marianne, You are so correct. The key for a leader is to know the line where people can stretch themselves but not go beyond that line. Dr. Gary Carlson
Jonathan, When we need to step back and lead ourselves into clearer thinking your method is great. Hasty decisions often come back to haunt us. Thoughtful decisions are better in the long run. Dr. Gary Carlson

Matt, Crisis planning is for the purpose of protection of lives and property. I have experienced good crisis planning that reduced the impact of the crisis. We all know crisis may not be avoided but imp t may be reduced. Colleges and universities have learned the most expensive way with losing of lives. Lock downs and student awareness has been implemented through efficient plans. Crisis plans should be revisited on a regular basis. New employees and adjustment mDe where needed. Dr. Gary Carlson
Debbie, Great techniques, you use these with consistency the people will grow respect for your honesty and fairness. When everyone knows the rules of the meeting and how you will handle it when people get outside of the comfort zone. I used an old practice when people came to the meeting I would have them put a rubber band on their wrist. When someone was saying something negative the group would ask them to snap their wrist. We had fun with it but it did point out how other felt about some comments. Dr. Gary Carlson
Rick, Yes, you are right on with your technique. Another important practice is physical exercise. Dr. Gary Carlson
Terrak, There is positive stress which is used in most cases to motivate. Those stresses caused from trauma are more profound to cause health issues. Dr. Gary Carlson
