About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jerry, Good point and a valuable resource to use. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sherry, Simple thing to do but as you say many people do not do it. Stepping back and thinking about the situation can do a lot to help a person see the problem from another perspective. At times on our farm, my dad would say I think it is "Walk around time" which meant that we would step back and walk around a bit before tackling the problem again. Most time our walking around gave us time to solve the problem in our minds and then solve it in reality. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, Thank you for sharing this strategy and how effective it is with us. This is the kind of information that helps others to see how they can reinforce their students. You are so right about the need for students to have someone to notice that they worked hard and earned a good grade. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Like your approach as you are creating a little mystery to what you are sharing with them. You are giving them the inside scoop on how to have a successful career and I am sure this really gets their attention. This is what learning should be about so keep up the sharing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Good point because your method is constantly checking for understanding and this is how you know learning is occurring. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chad, When you let them use their life experiences you are helping your content to have application and relevancy. They start to see value to what is being taught since they can use this information in their lives and this helps them to see how they are moving closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maria, Like your use of variety and change of pace with your students. By letting them work in different settings you are helping them to expand their communication skills while developing their abilities to work with others. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
George, How do you determine this with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. By doing both you are helping them to stay engaged for the duration of each class session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
