About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Peyman, The more you can connect the dots for students the better. You are doing such via your own experiences and applications of the content. This way you are enhancing the value of the content being offered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lauren, Great advice to share with veteran teachers. By sharing you help beginning teachers to be able to focus on all the little things that go into preparing to teach without have to come up with the content for a complete course. As has been said: Share, share, share. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peyman, This concise and careful way of explaining to the students about the expectations of the course is so valuable to them. This way they know what they have to do to be successful. Then they can set their minds to the workload and proceed toward meeting the course goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cappriccieo, Can't say anymore than what you have. It is an essential part of getting a course off to a good start and the foundation upon which the rest of the course will be built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maria, Good point and one that needs to be considered as you do your instructional planning. Without clear goals and objectives the students will just be wondering around without an understanding of where the course is going to go and what the expectations are. This is when the course goes off the rails. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cappriccieo, The key is to make everything generational/age appropriate even if you are using techniques that are used at other levels of teaching. I use many elementary school strategies in my college courses because they are very effective and engaging. I select generational/age appropriate examples and projects and then integrate them into my college level delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jerrod, Good strategy to follow and make a part of your instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amanda, You and your students are going to like the results of playing games and interacting with each other. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amanda, This are fun things to do. We did this in Kindergarten why can't we do this with adults. Adults are just taller children in many ways. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrea, Right you about the need to help students to make application of the new content as well as see the relevance of what is being taught. This increases the value of the course to the student. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
