About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Heather, This is a great way to start a class off and get information from them. By you asking them to fill out the cards you are sending them a message that you care about them and their success. This is where the earning of their respect comes in and starts the development of rapport. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edwin, This is a very important part of information to have. Yes, the two generations do approach courses differently so it is important to plan and interact with each generation in ways that appeal to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrea, Students do need to be reminded throughout the course as to what the goals of the course are because as they wear down in the course they can forget why they are in the course. Also, the more relevance and application you can make the better because this increases the value of course content for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Thank you for these comments about the value of the a positive first impression. It is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, Right you are. This is where both application and relevance comes alive. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeffrey, How do you do these two methods in your classes? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, Sounds like a good plan for how to engage your students and keep them focused on the content being shared. I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lauren, Like your approach because it sets a professional standard for your students so they know what it takes to be successful in the course. By the way these are the two areas that bug me as well so I come down hard on these two to make sure that the students understand my expectation in relation to their behaviors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ynonnie, Well said because you are setting the standards for the course and helping your students see where you are taking the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, The syllabus is the road map for the course so the more clearly and concisely you write it the easier it will be for students to understand the course requirements and expectations. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
