About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Paul, This is a good method to use as the movement of the eyes and head has been shown to help students to focus and then refocus their attention as they follow you throughout the learning environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Briana, Good ways to expand your knowledge as a professional educator as well as share the strategies that work well for you. This is a win win situation for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, This is how you build confidence in the minds of your students and expand their skills as problem solvers. Keep up this good effort as you help them transition into the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, Glad this information was helpful to you as you plan your instructional delivery. Knowing that these filters are being used helps as you reinforce your content and help students make applications. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glen, Good strategy because you are checking for understanding while giving students the opportunity to reflect on what has been said and then recall what they have stored in their working memories. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, There is an old saying that is phrased "To teach is to learn twice, once as a student and again as a teacher." This saying applies to your use of students in helping with demonstrations and peer sharing. The retention of the content will be increased as a result reinforcing what they have been taught and then sharing it with colleagues. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Like your style in setting up a situation where prior to the class your students know you and that you care about them as individuals. This is the human factor that many students are seeking. This is the foundation upon which respect is earned and rapport is developed. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, This is approach is appropriate because you are bringing years of experience and confidence in your knowledge and skills to your students. This way your students will know that even though you are a new instructor they are being instructed by a professional in their field who has lived what they are preparing to do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jon, The more of these types of examples the better. Real life examples reinforce the content being shared and increases the engagement of students because they can see the value of the content through the examples. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, You are bringing such a rich background of experience to your students. By sharing both your content and your experiences you increase the value of the course for the students. This results in increased engagement and learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
