About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Jennifer, This is such an important point because students need to see you as the learning leader. If you are not prepared or organized then you will not be respected nor listened to with any depth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, It is the foundation upon which the activities of the course are built. Students need to be comfortable and supported as they undertake the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I agree. This way you get to observe different approaches and then you can select which one to follow or adapt to your instructional style. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, I think you will like the results you get from this effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Peter, Like your definition and how you see it being applied to job completion. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

I am finding that more and more of the students are coming to class with little or no experience in using common sense to analyze a problem. I am spending more time in this area. There is more to life and problem solving than Google. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Gary, This is such a valuable strategy for you to use. I am a big fan of guest speakers and field trips for the reasons you list. Guest speakers help students to see the reason why the content being taught is valuable and they reinforce the standards you have for the course. They make everything real for the students. After a guest speaker my students are always ramped up and motivated to work even harder. When ever they start to wear down I bring in another speaker so I can keep them on a high and excited in relation to… >>>

David, This is a common challenge for all of us educators. We have content to share but wonder what is the best way to do it. My suggestion would be to do mini-lectures of approximately 20 minutes and then do an activity such as small group work, case study, role play, Q&A, etc., then back to another mini-lecture and repeat the cycle. Interject examples from the field, utube videos and any other form of media that will help catch their attention. You will not get them all and some students are there just to be entertained and not really study… >>>
