About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Nicole, So true and so important. Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery so the more we can offer both the more engagement we will have. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laura, Good way to connect the dots and help individuals see the value of education. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, This is a great to make the content come alive and the reality of what they are learning becomes real. It is at this point they start to see themselves becoming of part of their career field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, This is a very important skill to have because it keeps the entire class involved in the discussion rather than just the one student. This process also gets the other students thinking about possible answers to the question being discussed so the critical thinking is spread among and between everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rolonda, Passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it sets the tone for learning. You are bringing both to your students and this is why they are so engaged. Keep up the good work and may you impact the lives of students for many years to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Billy, You are in a great position as a former student now back at your school but with 20 years of experience in between. This gives you insight that will aid in your instructional planning and student interaction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to the challenge of teaching a course that is longer in duration and is in the evening. I follow a similar strategy in that I offer change of pace and variety frequently. As you have commented they fade rather quickly so we need to offer different delivery formats that will keep their brains on target. The more application and relevance we can offer the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, The more you know about your students the better you can relate to them. This information also helps with the customizing of your instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dawn, Good point and this is why it is so important to have a good first impression. It is the foundation upon which the course builds. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, I wish you much success with your first class meeting. It is going to go well I can tell from your comments because you have planned well and understand your role as a learning leader, model and human being. Relax with your students and have fun with the introductions and an ice breaker. When these two items are completed you will be surprised at how comfortable you feel and you will be ready to move on to the course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
