About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Danny, Like your like and your approach. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
FRANCES, Thank you for these comments on how to keep students engaged and keep the flow of the course going. This is how the dots are connected for students as you move from bit of content and activity to another. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danny, Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. You are doing both plus helping to keep them engaged with your sharing of your past experiences in the field. This is a formula for engagement by your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
FRANCES, Right you are and why it is so important to help them get settled in and focused on what is going to come in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Garland, This is such a good way to start a new course off. Everyone learns more about each other and why they are enrolled in the class. Your ice breaker about a favorite music artist gets them to thinking about artists as well as how they are going to learn more content and skills in their field and that makes for increased motivation. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danny, I really enjoy starting a new course and getting an understanding of who is enrolled. Their life experiences always amaze me since I find that so many of my students have done some incredible things prior to their enrolling in this course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leslie, Right you are. This is why it is so important to have a well organized and informative syllabus to share with your students as you get a new course underway. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danny, Great ways to expand your knowledge and expertise as a learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ronald, This simple yet very important actions really set the tone for the class and help the students to feel welcome as well as comfortable with how the course will unfold for them. Consistency is a powerful engagement tool that help students to see that they are in good hands with their learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Welcome to the rewarding world of education. I hope you have a most productive career as a learning leader. You can use you-tube content if you give credit to those who created the videos. I would think you would use these video is short clips and then have discussions around applications of the content. This way you are personalizing the content for your students and imparting your own experience into the learning process. This is how the course content will start to become real for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
