About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

WAEL, You have a great sequence planned out for your students. It is a building process for them as they acquire the needed skills and knowledge. The end result is a well trained and confident student ready to enter the workplace. Keep up the good work! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
WAEL, Good strategy to have for your instructional effort and your students. We are not serving our students if we set our standards for them too low. We need to reflect the standards of our field so our students will be successful when they leave school and enter their field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
FRANCES, Passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in engaging students in the learning process. So with comprehensive planning an instructor is ready to face the class and share his or her knowledge about the topic under discussion. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
FRANCES, I agree with your assessment of the value of connecting real life events to the topics being covered in class. These connections increase the value of the content and give the students insight as to the relevance and application of what is being taught. This is where they start to see the ROI for themselves as students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, "Ah-ha" moments are what keep many of us coming back to the classroom or lab year after year. We do impact the lives of our students and help them create a future for themselves and this makes all of our work worth it when such a moment occurs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jonida, The more information you have about your students the more accurately you can customize you instructional approach. You make a good point about the accommodation factor in relation to knowing the characteristics of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
WAEL, Thank you for these points concerning the value of a well prepared syllabus. Such a syllabus reduces so many questions and frustrations by students because it answers their questions and helps them understand what the expectations of the course are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
WAEL, Your approach is helping to make the course content come alive and have value to the students. Each one can personalize the content in relation to their life outside of the classroom or lab. This is when they start to see the ROI in relation to being enrolled in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, Thank you for these comments about the value of graphic organizers. These are the benefits I have gotten from using them with my students and why they are a part of each of my classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, This is so important because you are right about the adult students knowing why they are in the class. They for the most part are pretty clear on their career goals and want their classes to move them toward the day when they can enter into and be successful as professionals in their chosen field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
