About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

RICHARD, Good way to share information with students yet hold them accountable for having received it. This way they cannot say they did not get it so you can't hold them to meeting the course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tom, This is a good way to open up the class and get the students settled in to what is going to be covered with that day's topic. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Good strategy to follow because more of the connections you can create for them the better especially since your course is online. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, As many students have selective hearing and reading this is a good way to not only inform them but also hold them accountable for having received the information needed for success in the class. Good way for everyone to be on the same page from day one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gina, These types of openings are a key part of getting the students settled into the course and starting to feel that they are going to enjoy being part of the learning community. Good strategy to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jenaro, Thank you for these comments on how to establish rapport with students. Earning their respect and developing rapport with them are two of the most important elements of being a learning leader. I know this information will be valuable to other instructors, especially those just starting their teaching careers and looking for suggestions on how to be successful with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ed, Like it! Hopefully it will catch on and become of how we approach and work with students. Thanks for coming up with this phrase. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
JOSEPH, With this type of opening and introductions everyone can settle into the course and learn more about each other. The more they get to know each other the more comfortable they will be when they are asked to work together. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MICHAEL, This an important part of their educational process. They will need to be able to adapt once they are in the workplace so they more they can experience alternative learning settings the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, Thank you for these comments on how you can help students to develop critical thinking skills. Each of the steps builds on the next to the point that they start to realize that they can actually solve problems by using the steps you work them through. It is a matter of experience, knowledge and confidence all of which take time and effort to acquire. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
