About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Nick, Based upon your previous career and life experiences I can tell you understand both discipline and leadership. Your comments about rapport building are valuable to other instructors, especially those just starting their teaching careers. They need to see what earning student respect and developing rapport will make their job easier and much more rewarding. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nick, Thank you for these comments as they right on target in relation to helping students see the value of being in school and being in your class. As a result of your effort they get to see how they are going to be able to use their new information and skills to be successful if they are willing to work at it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, I use both of these strategies to help "sell" my course content. Guest speakers and field trips ramp up the students and help to get them excited about what they are learning and how they are going to be able to use this new information. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
RICHARD, I like you like to know why my students are enrolled in my class and how they see the class helping them move forward in their career development. You make a very good point about the value of having this information as you work with each student. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laura, This is a very good point. Education is built upon right answers because right answers on tests get students points which translate into high grades. School should be organized in a way that students can make mistakes and learn from them in way that does not cause them undue concern and they can take what they learn from the mistakes and become even more proficient in their knowledge and skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ed, This is an insight that instructors need to find as they progress in their teaching career. With this understanding you are ready to make the needed adaptations that will enhance the learning of students and keep them engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, How do you do this with your students? Thanks for your input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ed, This is a great way to check for understanding while moving the students forward in the course. I commend you for the way you circle back to ensure your students are getting the content and if not providing ways for them to catch up. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Like your approach. You are taking your responsibility seriously and you are sending a very clear message to your students that you are going to help them be successful if they are willing to put forth the required effort. This is a win win situation if the students dedicate themselves to success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Have you found a method you really like for helping students become part of the introduction process? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
