About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Genea, The more senses you can use in instruction the better. Not only do the hear and read the information but they get to see it in action through the demonstration. These repetitions help the students to store the information in their memories for retrieval when needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, This is a good strategy to use and I especially like the connection you make between one class and the next. By doing the PE the students are ready for the next class when the PE is reviewed. This helps the keep the flow of the course going. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Genea, Good way to review the progress they have made during the week. They get to measure their progress through this method and this sets them up for the next week's content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
George, What are some strategies you use to do this? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tina, Right you are. The first impression is the foundation upon which the course is built. We as educators need to work hard in planning and conducting a very good first class so the students will get settled into the course and start looking forward to the upcoming sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marie, I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to your challenge of keeping students engaged. It does take a lot of planning to help them keep their focus and make progress in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tina, Right you are. This is such a great service to and for your students. A well prepared syllabus answers many of the questions that students have about the course and helps to get them forward focused and prepared for the upcoming sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Genea, Like your last sentence in terms of what you want to do with your students. If you do have them relaxed, reassured and confident you are going to have a group of students that are going to be engaged and focused. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
JOHN, How do your shape your goals and objective to come up with your course plan? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, It is a learning process for sure. The key is being able to adjust as needed and you have done that. The more experience you gain the better you will get at targeting your learners and providing them with the instruction and support they need to be successful. Keep up the good work.
