About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Nick, It really does. I really enjoy the first class meeting because I get to learn about the students I will be working with over the next few weeks. I am amazed at the life experiences these students have had and I am able to incorporate a lot of those experiences into course discussions. You are right with your comment as it relates to getting to know the personalities of your students through the introductions. This way you know how to reach out to the students and get them engaged in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nick, So true. This is what being an educator is about. To do less is to short change your students and the results will be their education will not have the depth is should have. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicholas, This is a powerful message to send and for students to receive. They are studying with someone that has earned his living in the field and knows how to conduct himself in a professional manner. By following the modeling of their learning leader the students will be competitive when it comes to securing employment and growing in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Good strategy to follow because this helps the students to reinforce the content in their minds and results in greater retention for a longer period of time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, This tie in is powerful for students because the stories reinforce the value of the content to the students. Also, as you have noticed I know they really get excited about the stories due to the interest factor that shows them that they will be experiencing these same things before long. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Deb, It is mine as well. I really feel great when I know I have been able to help students move closer to their career goals and it has been the result of the rapport I was able to develop with them and enjoy we got to enjoy the learning process together. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeffrey, Good way to use the strengths of your students as well as get to know where their need areas are in terms of development. This way you can help them shore up their weak areas while they are expanding their knowledge and skills as potential problem solvers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Zachary, So true. One single approach used over and over becomes a recipe for failure because one solution will not work in every setting as life experiences has taught us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Zachary, Like your definition. Simple and clear for students to understand and work toward in terms of becoming critical thinkers themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Thank you for sharing the use of graphic organizers with us. They work in so many different settings and ways and we instructors are always on the lookout for ways we can use them in our content areas. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
