About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jenna, I teach gen ed classes as well from 4 until 10 pm so I can appreciate what you are doing with all of your planning and activities. It is a challenge to keep them excited about the course content and focused on what they need to learn for this length of time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammie, With this advanced planning comes more confidence as well so it is great when you can walk into a classroom knowing your are ready to deliver your content and engage your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Howard, Important step that should not be over looked. They need to be able to weigh pros and cons as they come up with possible solutions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
RANDALL, Examples of successful projects from previous classes is a great way to illustrate your expectations to students. They get to see where they are going to need to go if they are going to be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
George, The more use of the senses the better. Your delivery method lets them see the content from a number of different perspectives and that reinforces it in their memory banks for use later on. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Ricky, Student feedback is how we improve our instructional delivery. We get their perspective and then we can create ways to enhance their learning experiences and be more effective in our instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
ANTHONY, To me when situations like this occur it makes teaching so easy since the students get to see the value of the content as it is used to solve the problem that exists with the car. They are doing their own problem solving and growing at the same time in their expertise. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carmen, Good way to establish a professional air about the class and let the students know they are being instructed by an educator that cares about them and their field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Geetha, Nice blend of all three methods in your knowledge sharing. This way your students get to use their different learning preferences in different ways and increase their engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Howard, Yes it does and the more skill the students develop in reflective thinking the greater their problem solving skills will become. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
