About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

QUINTIN, I agree because the students are going to more involved and motivated as a result of this method of content sharing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Great to hear. I wish you continued teaching success. May you continue to impact the lives of your students for years to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Yes it is. If we have earned the respect of our students and have developed rapport with them we are going to have a connection that generates student engagement and excitement. This is when teaching becomes a lot of fun. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ralph, This is a good point in terms of what we need to bring to the classroom. If we bring passion for our field and enthusiasm for teaching about it our students are going to see that there is a reason for them to be excited about what they are studying. Excitement does spread so we need to bring it each time our classes meet. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MICHAEL, I think this as well. They need to see application and relevancy to what is being taught. Also, it is good to connect what they are being taught to dollars so they can see they are investing in themselves and their future by working hard in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
VICTOR, This is true because just because they enrolled does not mean that they have an understanding of what all their career selection entails. The more they learn about it the more they realize that this is the right career choice for them or that this was not and they need to move to another area. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ralph, I can understand why your students say this as I am a hands on lab learner myself. As they master the tactile skills they will see the value of the cognitive information being taught and how both are needed for career success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MICHAEL, Students like to have ongoing reinforcement to occur. We need to keep this in mind as we interact with the students and share our knowledge with them and they with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Like it. Very sound from an education perspective. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Students like real world examples and you were able to provide them with one. As you say this is when the best engagement occurs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
