About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Rebecca, If given permission to restructure your delivery format I know you are going to like the results you achieve. You are going to have engaged and motivated students as a result of the the speakers and this sets the class up to have success in a number of different ways. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, First class meetings can be over whelming for students unless planned well. A lot of information is shared with students and they need to be able to see how this information will benefit them as the course unfolds in the coming weeks. Expectations need to be shared and polices reviewed so everyone understands what the requirements are and how success can be achieved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angie, Well said about needing to set the bar high and make an impression that reinforces it. This is the foundation upon which the rest of the course can be built and gets everyone on the same page in relation to understanding how the course is going to operate. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
ANTHONY, I wish you the best when you start your new course off with the additional information you have gained from the module. Since you have been teaching, even though it was a bit of a rocky start you have those experiences to combine with what you are learning and this is going to give you a great foundation for launching your next course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Right you are and this is why we need to review our syllabi and make sure we are sending the intended message and help our students to see why we are covering what we are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joseph, Good advice for instructors to follow. This is what being a learning leader should be about. Thank you for these comments. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Thanks you for sharing this definition. It hits on all of the key components of what it takes to be a learning leader and have an impact on the lives of students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doris, Like your definition. It provides both depth and width in terms of using common sense and experience to be able to solve problems and be a leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doris, Yes it does and that is the reason many people do not become good problem solvers. They don't want to invest in themselves and develop the needed critical thinking skills it takes to solve problems. That is why a few individuals move to the top of their profession. They have invested in themselves and expanded their skill sets to the point they are sought after and are see as being valuable to employers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doris, Good point and one to consider as you provide students with critical thinking opportunities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
