The main thing I have found with students with reading problems is they don't want anyone to know. when I think they have a problem I will talk to them outside the classroom and let them know that I will make sure they understand what we are covering. It seems to put them at ease.

English!

It is hard for me to relate the meanings of some words to my students that dont have much english skills. I can sometimes look for words or describe a situation that helps them understand

Student groups

Groups don't allways work well with my content or student base. I make sure that I am moving and engaging all students and learning from ther reactions to me how I might could enhance participation in the class

Moving and eye contact

Just the tone of my voice can spark interest and is easy to see. By beeing up beat stron voiced allways positive and happy never fails with getting most of my stundent on the same field as equals almost.

Competency based education

Even though I enjoy the classroom the skiils that I teach are based on actualy being able to perform to certain standards. I enjoy the hands on as do most of the students. It is up to them to figure out the best way for them to learn and apply the process. That is what makes it such a challenge. You have to identify what works for each student.

Getting to know your students

I will certainly spend more time getting to know my students background. I used it today with a student that always talks about another school he went to. I took the time to speak with him about the way they did things and how he could combine that with what he is doing now. It really gave him a better outlook and wasn't then comparing the two schools. That I learned in this course. It made all involved fill good.

It was a course that boiled down to the use of common sense in a lot of situations. I'm going to try to incorporate some of the things I learned in my everyday approach to teaching. There are so many ways to reach students but being able to identify all the personalities is a never ending process from what I see. We never stop learning.

Extra credit

The extra credit we offer on some exams just makes up for a question you might have missed. I would like to be able to offer something to the students that have to work harder than others but we have no policy for that. I just give them verbal praise for there progress. It seems to help but doesn't change there grade.

Back up plan

Back up plans are a must. But its easy to get off track if they dont relate to the subject. Just when you think you have seen every kind of learner there will be another style of person. I learn something new all the time.

Chalk Board

I am a overhead and chalk board teacher in the classrooms. I can see that I need to keep it cleaner now after going thru this last module... It made a lot of sense to me
