Stephen, Online learning is certainly growing the hybrid market. Research shows us that many traditional instructors that don't fully embrace online learning, do embrace some of the technologies from online learning and are building their own hybrid/blended classrooms. Online learning still continues to grow as well. It will be hard for it to completely replace the traditional classroom for some areas, but it will continue to grow. Herbert Brown III
Penelope, True feedback is important and the few the number of students the better to get them timely feedback. Are their any other factors that you can envision that might affect the ideal student to instructor ratio? Herbert Brown III
Desiree, I have also found that students seeing a zero in the gradebook will get their attention. I usually still work with them if they had a issue that kept them from completing the work, but many times I have found I can't get their attention until that zero is posted. Herbert Brown III
Penelope, Communication is paramount. If you can put many of the important course expectations in writing in the syllabus or similar location you can head off many of the same questions throughout the course. Herbert Brown III
Desiree, Very nice and warm and welcoming statement. Herbert Brown III
Ty, Do you believe that students should have expectations for their instructors and the instructors responsibilities in the course? What might those look like? Herbert Brown III
Ty, Do you give them endless resubmits? If you let them resubmit everything what is to keep the students from turning in absolute junk the first time (to get feedback and an extension) and then resubmit for the best grade? Herbert Brown III

Jean, I agree 100% that students might have very valid points in regards to the material on your course as well as the design. I believe all instructors need to be reflective practitioners and we need to be constantly reviewing our courses and all feedback we get to optimize them in to the best courses they can be. To that end, I would also have a discussion with the student regarding what might be a BETTER experience or assessment in their opinion. Use their expertise to improve your course. I like they way you commented that the course is designed… >>>

Ty, Do you just punish them with a low grade or do you allow them a couple of opportunities to increase that grade? Sometimes online learning is new to students and it takes them a couple of assignments to decipher your instructions and the way you teach. What about expectations for you as the instructor? Should students expect certain behaviors from you? Herbert Brown III
