Activity

Richard, great points. In addition to knowing the subject matter, instructors also need to understand how current events relate to their area and what trends their students need to anticipate into the future. James Jackson
Richard, well stated. Spending that extra time with those students that have additional needs is what separates educators from trainers. Both teach but educators are focused on the individual and not just the job. James Jackson
Earl, excellent point and not only do instructors need to be role models but they need to also understand they must always bring their "A" game the moment they walk through the doors of the institution. James Jackson
Jennifer, loving what you do shows to students and there is really no substitute. The passion you show outwardly will make a big difference with your students. Keep up the great work. James Jackson
Ramon, can you elaborate on this topic a bit? I am very interested in how you define "soft skills" and how these skills relate to their motivation. Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
Kozet, great post and I too love to see what types of jobs my students obtain as a result of their education. I also use this information to help motivate other students since such feedback is one way of keeping current students informed of the current state of the job market within their profession of interest. James Jackson
Terence, do you provide any other exam training resources? For some students that have been out of school for several years the actual mechanics of test taking can be a challenge. You may consider just taking a single session you would use for a quiz and take your students through some best practices in how best to take a test. Sounds a bit silly but for some students and this can be the case with more than you think, just knowing how to be a good test taker is just as important as knowing the material. James Jackson
Ramon, in what ways do you help your students better understand the power of intrinsic motivation versus extrinsic? For those students that are looking for education to provide them a means to make money they are extrinsically motivated. Those that are intrinsically motivated in their career fields tend to go further and become more successful. Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
Mark, I tend to agree with your statements. Too many of our students are surrounded with negative energy so their time in the classroom needs to be as filled with positive energy as possible. For those instructors that say students need to know that life is hard, most students already know this lesson and know it well. James Jackson
Chad, sounds like a great resource. Videos could be provided simply by you creating your own YouTube page and releasing appropriate videos at different times during the term. Just a thought. James Jackson
