Chad, how would you rate the overall scoring on your tests? If your class performs better than most that make use of quizzes and reviews then your process would be considered a success. If you have not conducted some level of review of the outcomes of your classroom objectives and how those relate to other similar courses I would highly recommend conducting such a review. James Jackson
Ronald, glad to see others have not been punished by losing out on the review. As long as you never have the pull the trigger on this one I can see the value but I would have a hard time taking a review away from all students due to a few bad apples. James Jackson

jeannie, this is an example leading by example and is a good practice. While it may not be the best approach for all institutions I do not see any negatives for those institutions that choose to operate within this boundary. There is value however in also teaching students to not focus so much on what others are doing but focus on what can set them apart in a positive way with their potential employers. When we dress for success our success is best! Thanks for sharing. James Jackson
Ma. Louella , humor is great when done correctly. What actions do you take in the early stages of getting to know a new group of students so you can be a better judge of what topics are fair game and what topics are best to exclude when introducing humor into the classroom? Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson

Delores, providing positive messages and leading by example is critical to many of our students. For some the only positive influence they may experience is within the walls of your classroom. The more you can get to know your students the more you will be able to appreciate the full influence you may have on their life. Dr. Joe Pace from The Pacific Institute teaches us that for every negative our students experience we need to counter with 11 positives. This goes to show how powerful negative energy can be in the lives of our students and why we need… >>>

Charles, what an awesome compliment. You bring forward an even more important point with respect to impact. That student will have incredible things to say about their experience with you and your institution. Their comments could inspire others to begin their journey in earning a degree and with that you would not have only motivated one student but a multitude of individuals. You also improved the life of your student and their entire family unit. Instructors impact the lives of students and their families in so many ways it is hard at times to fully understand. Thanks for sharing and… >>>

Patrick, can you better define "state change"? I am not sure what you had intended on saying here. Thanks for any feedback you can provide. James Jackson
Kimberly, well stated. I am reminded of the golden and silver rules - Do unto others as you would have done unto you and do not treat others poorly simply because they treat you poorly but take the high road and always be the model for others to follow. This is not a word for word translation but the meaning is the same. James Jackson
Tabitha, great post and most importantly is the realization that we as instructors need to inspect our results and make adjustments as needed to achieve our overall objectives for the term. Setting the stage early is key but continual reminders are also important. Every student is unique and each term will bring new challenges but if we as instructors are always focused on student outcomes then the adjustments we make along the way will most likely be successful. Gina, each industry is different and each job type has its own special twists. If your industry and the specific jobs are no cellular friendly then by all means this is important information to share with students. Some industries however require their employees to be one with their technology and all forms of communication so be careful to paint this picture with too wide of a brush. There was a time in the history of Higher Education that books were the devil's work and had no place in the classroom. Times do change and we need to find ways to… >>>
