The Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools is responsible for ensuring that schools comply with standards set by state law. What do you think are some specific areas of focus in the regulations?
Compliance continues to be a crucial topic in the private school sector of higher education. In your role as a faculty member, what can you do to help ensure that your institution creates and sustains an ethical and compliance-based culture?
Carlos, Agreed. A passionate description of the product or service is crucial to success, but financial projections, sales forecasts and budgeting are all subject to the keen eyes of credit holders and investors. I think the three key elements that need to be addressed in a business plan for a new product or service are 1) is it creative, 2) is it marketable and 3) is it sustainable enough for a decent ROI? Roselyn, Good point, we have seen many times when the executive summary not only set the stage for the full business plan, but in itself was the most deciding factor.
Donald, Well put! I too examine financial ratios (debt ratio, quick ratio, equity ratio, etc.) as a valid indicator of financial performance. And as you also mentioned, the cash flow is crucial since it directly relates to how well an organization can pay its short-term debts. Thanks! Jay Hollowell

Hi Donald, Thanks! it is particularly interesting that you look at potential trends from the annual reports. What has been targeted in the past, as well as results, can be, as you affirmed, an indicator of future financial health and initiatives. Jay Hollowell
German, Thanks German, suffice it to say that positive employee satisfaction yields better student customer service which in turn can have a positive effect on student retention. This, of course, leads to a better financial picture as long as an institution has its costs under control. Jay Hollowell
Susan, Good points, Susan, in fact as you reference, shared financial information among stakeholders can lead to a more feasible pathway to tapping the resources that may be available outside of an organization's daily operations. It works hand-in-hand. Jay Hollowell
James, Good points. I might even further contend that if we eliminate the "dissatisfiers," we're then at point zero, or neutral. It's when we do a little extra - when a customer service action is unexpected, timely and on-target - do we accomplish customer-first service. You're right, things that can be easily fixed but left unresolved - shame on us! Resolution of such a "dissatisfier" should be the minimum expectation. Jay Hollowell
Patricia, Thanks Patricia, supporting information in particular assists the reader in comprehending both the details and the larger picture. Jay Hollowell
