I'm assuming that's the order of importance from your perspective? What do you feel contributes to people skills being #1 for you?
Well said. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and good managers and leaders understand that. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for posting Bruce. Other than leading by example, what are other ways that a person can demonstrate positive leadership?
You bring up a common challenge and one that many admission professionals struggle with every day. The ability to clear our filter and to approach every interview fresh and without bias is a practice. What can you do to prepare yourself before each interview to set aside preconceived notions?
Being flexible and working with your prospective students to schedule an appointment that is convenient for them is one of the many elements for moving forward with them. However, as I posted above, sometimes students will set an appointment only to get off the phone with us. A question to consider is, are we meeting our students where they are in the process or are we asking them to meet us where we are in the process? How do you personally know when it's the right time to invite a prospective student to the campus for an interview?
Great point Doug! I'm curious, how do you generate interest and excitement with your prospective students? Would you share some of your success stories?
Thank you for sharing the process you use at your school. Your approach seems to be helping reduce the number of interruptions you might encounter during an interview. I think you are also realizing that today's student is changing and that we need to have flexibility with the changing population. Great awareness!
Well said Miriam. What steps do you personally take to discover the goals of your students and to determine fit?
Miriam, These are some great resources to help your prospective students. Any other ideas? Dr. Jean Norris
Geoffrey, Sounds like a great place to work! Dr. Jean Norris
