Cinthia, How does this awareness help you? Dr. Jean Norris
Michel, Wow! These are all great insights into your personal preferences. Given you are very clear on this...how do you effectively deal with others who are different? Dr. Jean Norris
Eduardo A. , Very well articulated! You are correct that these 4 key competencies are essential and as admission professionals we must be at 100% within each of these. What we are suggesting, however, is most of the "weight" in terms of skills has been placed on selling skills and product knowledge in the past. The assumption was people were born with people skills and attitude and we have found these areas to not only be more important to prospective students, but also areas that we can develop skills further. Make sense? Dr. Jean Norris
Brian, Humor is one of those things that works when used tactfully. I've seen some folks get in trouble when using inappropriate humor. I really think it comes down to being "real" and the prospective student knowing that you are a real person too. Dr. Jean Norris
Brian, Comparing a career college to a community college is a common situation. One thing I'd suggest is learning all you can about the structure of the community college so you can fairly compare the pros/cons to what you offer. I often say that if it were just about the money...everyone would attend a community college - and yet they don't. There are many reasons why the community college isn't the right fit for certain students and they are willing to pay more money for a solution that meets their needs. Dr. Jean Norris
