Activity

We are somewhat in the Mental Business as Mentors to our students. How do you see yourself as a Mentor?
Discussion Comment
People form a first impression within the first 2 to 5 seconds. What do you think about that? Why do you think we do that?
Discussion Comment
Research says we only have about 5 true mentors in our life. How many do you have?
Teachers that are Intelligent Hearts are not psychologists but Great Mentors. We are in the mental health business to a great degree, because many of our students have so many problems and unless we guide and help them, they won't in school long enough to teach them.
Any kind of praise to a student must be warranted. Sometimes we may have to dig to find it but it is important to many students that have never received much praise throughout their lives. It is needed to build self-efficacy and self-esteem that then leads to better performance.
Discussion Comment
Sports and positive coaching taught many of us a lot of things as kids. Some of our best Mentors as children are positive coaches. We never forget them.

Mark...you are an "intellegent heart."
The praise we give students must also be "Warranted" in order to have an impact as well.

Thanks Karen! I enjoyed all of your comments. Joe

Excellent! We need to always remind them of the "why" and the "WIIFM"...(What's In It For Me or the value for them to attend school along with why it's important).
