Kelly, Don't you think the skill of learning how to objectively evaluate your own work and others and being able to make decision s based on that is such a powerful skill that will be used in the real world? I don't have a problem with providing both good and bad examples of a project. I do know some of my visual arts instructors feel it stifles creativity. It is an interesting debate. Kelly, What great ways to engage the learners and assess them. Assessment can and probably should take different forms to ensure mastery of the objective content. Creativity is such a hidden skill within assessment; we don't always talk about its role. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kelly, Interesting post. Do you use the summative assessment to look at the process of learning from the instructors' role? Kelly, What a great idea! Yes, what are the objectives of the technology itself? Was it really intended for the purpose for wish to use it or is it being forced to use it for my purpose. William, It is still a mystery to me who told people that online is easy. We have to continue to tell students they have to be discipline to be successful and that isn't always a skill students have. We have to be honest to students about their success. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Chantee , I agree students need to know what best suits them but I would like for them to wee their weaknesses in learning something to fix rather than fix. There is some interesting research that is debunking learning styles. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Telicia, The number of reasons why content can't be taught is really diminishing. I just had a conversation with someone who was telling their institution taught physics online. There is a lab component and the online students receive a "lab in a box". There is everything you need to do your lab experiments. They use tutorials and videos to walk students through the experiments. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Telicia, So many times the instructors are the only contact students have with the university. Once you solve a problem for a student, you have proven to them you are a valuable resource and they will continue to go to them for answers. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Telicia, I respect your efforts to make sure each student is graded based on their efforts. You want to make sure you set minimum standards and evaluate students based on that. A rubric is a great tool to use. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
