Lois, I guess I don't understand that concern. If it supports the outcomes and helps learning why would this be an issue. It is part of the learning and addresses a different way of learning. Interesting. . . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Andrew, I hadn't thought about the affect of social media on the perception of blogging. I use the blogging tool in my LMS instead of discussion because I like the setup better. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Stanley, Great question. I haven't noticed any policy within my institution regarding blogging in classes. I suspect I may have more freedom based on the they type of institution. Anyone? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Lois, You make a VERY important point. You need to develop your communication channels and promote them. Adding more and more without evaluating their effectiveness does overwhelm you and the students and nothing is communicated. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Andrew, It sounds like you are a believer! I agree with you. It teaches students to communicate succinctly. It can be a powerful tool. Students are tied to their phones. . . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Lois, Can you determine if the students watch the recordings? Does the LMS do that? That would be interesting to monitor. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Stanley, You make a great point, just the use of YouTube does create a familiarity factor for students. Even if it is about APA citations. . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Lois, Good question! I create a tutorial for students to watch. We used to have a course in digital and information literacy but we determined that students already have it. I am convinced this is not true. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Stanley, Expectations, expectations, expectations! Pressure isn't a bad thing; Earth's pressure gives us diamonds. :) Students need to see us modeling the skills and dispositions we want to see in our students. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Melissa, With your statement you show that you CAN develop relationships online. People to it all of the time yet I am surprised when people say that online education is individualistic and cold. I find that is up to the tone set by the instructor. Our traditional students have relationships with students all of the time and find them fulfilling. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
