Ben, But isn't true that sometimes a professor cannot help a student learn because the student has no intent on learning? Renee Shaffer

In most cases, the student doesn't mind if the professor know about the specific disability.  Just be sure to work withyou Disabilities office so that they can help you get the information that you need.@MysteryDDS :

Steven , Yes, we, I think, are seeing more often. I have experienced that. Some of it may have to due with the "consumer" mindset that the students has been brought up in. They want what they want, when they want it and sometimes they don't want to work/wait for it. I think however that we also find that attitude outside of education. Renee Shaffer
Steven , Oh yes, the dreaded, "automatic A". It seems such a shame that students often seem intent on just making the grade but not doing the work. Renee Shaffer
LE, Yes, the use of small font is particularly bad for many learners not just those with vision disabilities. Renee Shaffer

LE, It is so great that you make the time to answer students in a timely manner. Renee Shaffer

Chronicle for Higher Education reports that there has been a new federal court ruling on accommodations for a student with disabilities.  The medical school must provide additional assistance to help a student with a hearing disability (deafness).  This assistance means an interpreter and transcription services.

Melissa, Yes and for so many learners, their attention span is only about 20 minutes so your speaking component at 15-20 min. is great. Renee Shaffer
Karen, Glad that you are getting so much out of the class. That makes my day! Renee Shaffer

Karen, Great ideas. Working before, during and after the term with the Office of Disability Services can really build rapport. Don't forget to contact them after just in case you can receive some feedback from them. they will be "impressed"! :) Renee Shaffer
