Dolores, Touche! Well said. So often faculty see making things accessible as being too time consuming and as you say, "too much trouble". If we can get beyond this attitude, we can see that universal design can help everyone. Renee Shaffer

Alfred, Very good points. I especially like the idea about transcribing the text into the chat box. It doesn't have to be verbatim (that would be great) but the essence certainly. Renee Shaffer

Thanks so much.  It is always nice to get such good feedback.

Just wanted everyone using Windows 8 to know that there is a lot of great accessbility options and programs that as they say "make it easier to see, hear, and use" the computer.  The Ease of Access button is very helpful.

Dolores, Dolores, these are very good questions. While there are some very good teaching materials that are not closed captioned, it is imperative for the instructor to include these only when they are accessible to everyone. Schools must find the resources to get them closed captioned or provide a transcript (some have hired students to transribe them) but it must be done if the video/film is to be used. Renee Shaffer

Stephanie, Yes, and many schools now are purchasing the equipment at lower prices and selling them to the students for use after their education. Renee Shaffer

Stephanie, It is good to hear that you allow the additional time. It can be so necessary and extremely helpful for them. Renee Shaffer
Kara, They can also provide a written transcript which can be read by a screen reader. Renee Shaffer
Kara, so very true. They are there to help instructors as well as their students. Renee Shaffer

Kara, Remember to that sometimes students are in the middle of the class before they sign up with the disability services office so try to be proactive when developing your course materials. Renee Shaffer
Yvette, So true. Every student is unique and different and a one size fits all system doesn't usually work. Renee Shaffer
