Yvette, Glad to know that you have helped students with disabilities and their different accomodations. Some need additional time, some need additional assistance. It all depends. Renee Shaffer

Kara, You can also give them a transcript saying what is actually in the videos- a description. Renee Shaffer

Dolores, Excellent ideas! I especially liked your 1, 2, and 3. You understand where students with disabilities are coming from and know of their hardships. You are indeed correct that every one of them is different. But whatever their differences, they are entitled to a good, vlaid education. Renee Shaffer

Darren, Good ideas. As long as the alternate assignment is similar, it would be acceptable. However, the better thing to do for video assignments is to have an adequate written transcript already available for the student. Your disability office should be able to help with this and many services are available which can help the learner and the instructor. Renee Shaffer

Andrew, But, if the instructor knew from the onset that they should make a transcript, it would alleviate headaches for everyone! Renee Shaffer
Andrew, All of these could trigger seizures and the synchronous nature of online chats can also not be user friendly to those with disabilities. Students may not be able to responde/communicate in real time. Two different issues. sorry for the confusion. Renee Shaffer
Andrew, There really isn't a good alternative. The only way is to re-make the forms in a way that can be read by a screen reader. Renee Shaffer

Andrew, Good idea. It is fairly easy to do as you initially make your PPT presentations. Renee Shaffer
Andrew, Very nicely stated! Though some with disabilities might not be able to actively participate in chats at least there needs to be an archive available for them. But, it will still leave these students out of the loop and not give them equal access so be very wary of using chats at all. Renee Shaffer
Cyndy, This is so true. Often times, just doing the "little things" like using a different font can make a world of difference for the student. And if we as instructors really want to help students succeed, shouldn't we go that extra step? Thanks! Renee Shaffer
