Steve, I would suggest although your response is the ideal environment and a practical sustaining solution, there are also situations that require a more dramatic and immediate response. This may be especially true when fast change is required. Mergers, leadership changes and business downturns are just a few examples. Ron Obstfeld
Joseph, Your use of "we" tells me you are certainly an invested member of the TEAM.Nice. Another thing to consider is what you might do if the goals are a directive and can not be modified. Ron Obstfeld

Jim, Reiteration is more of a passive techniques. Can you think of more proactive measures you might employ? Ron Obstfeld
Jim, Reiteration may not be enough. More proactive measures may be required. What other direct actions might you consider? Ron Obstfeld
Toni, You may want to consider pairing up people when forming a team. The pairs could work together thereby reducing the different paths. You might also touch base with team members on a regular basis to ensure they are proceeding along a path that will meet your goals. Ron Obstfeld
German, Very true. Your colleagues probably do not see any advantage to participate...WIIFM (What In It For Me). Since they are so busy, they probably view this as EXTRA work they don't need or want. Perhaps there is a way to free up some of their time...or extra compensation(gift certificate, tickets, etc)....or special recognition. The trick is to find something that would motivate them to actively participate. You might also consider using parents. Especially in a small school, parents may want to be involved in special projects that will benefit the students. Ron Obstfeld

Darryl, There is a distinct difference between a manager and a leader. One can learn to manage....even learn to be a good manager. Management is more like administering processes and procedures. Leadership requires inspiration, expert understanding of people, empathy, experience and some pizzazz. In my mind a great leader is one who can manage well AND inspire a team. Ron Obstfeld

Yanely, Empathy is a very important ingredient for leadership. Equally important are the leadership skills required to ensure business goals are met and growth opportunities are provided to team members. There is a vast difference between managing and team verses leading a team. Ron Obstfeld

Paula , Good idea. I would also do some individual coaching for the "quiet" individuals. Explain what you are doing and why. Ask how you might make them more comfortable contributing. Ron Obstfeld

Marie, Great! Another idea to consider is to let various team members assume the leader role....under your guidance. They gain valuable experience and empathy for the leadership role and team dynamics. Ron Obstfeld
