Reggie-- I love the idea of your 'buddies'. How do you decide who can serve in this role? Do they receive any type of recognition for being a buddy? Susan
Luz-- Using external sources, as you do with the financial aid information, is an excellent way to add credibility. Susan
Marc-- This sounds great! Keeping Career Services involved from start to finish also keeps the end goal (a job) in site. Susan
Barry-- Great analogy! Susan
Vivian-- Sounds great! Food is always a wonderful ice breaker and having faculty available in an informal setting is wonderful. Susan
Cindy-- That is great! It certainly sounds like you set a good tone in your classroom and I think students are pleasantly surprisede to find out you view them as clients. Susan
Fortuna-- This sounds fun...and it might be fun to keep them and then give them back to the students at graduation. Susan
Paul-- I agree! Most people do not believe we are that diligent that we would chase them down by contacting other friends and relatives. It does send a great message though about how much we want them to be in class and how important they are that we even noticed they weren't there! Susan
Mohan-- Spreading out orientation information (or reminders) over the entire first week is a great way to reinforce the rules and support systems available. Susan
Ray-- This sounds wonderful! I especially like that you take an entire week to do this. Spreading out the 'orientation' to their new environment helps them build confidence day-by-day. Susan
