About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Susan, I like the idea of letting students apply what they have just been lectured. Students retain more when they can do hands-on activities. Patricia Scales

Hi Judd, I move everywhere while my students are testing. They never know where I will be standing. Patricia Scales
Hi Charlotte, Examples really aid in many questions! Students know exactly what is required of them. Patricia Scales
Hi DOUGLAS, Some students just will not open up to you! Rapport building is a way to try to get silent students to open up. When a student feels as though he or she has a relationship with you, they tend to open up more. Patricia Scales

Hi B., Yes, you have it! Never lower standards! Always make students rise to the challenge. Patricia Scales
Hi Jason, Yes, students need to know on Day 1 exactly what is expected of them. The tone has to be set initially. Patricia Scales
