About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Robert, Wow, I got excited just from reading your response! I make it known on Day 1 how the course is going to benefit them in their career and their potential for income. Students get excited when you talk about money. Patricia Scales
Hi Robert, Yes, sharing examples with students is very motivating. Students know exactly what is required of them by seeing an example. Visual adds better clarity. Patricia Scales
Hi Lori, Love it! You really make learning in your classroom pertain to the real world. Students need to know the types of things they are going to encounter in the real world. Continue to prepare your students for the work force. Patricia Scales
Hi BRENDA, Yes! Students need someone to look up to. Befriending students is way too risky. We need to be the professional that we want our students to become. Patricia Scales
Hi Neil, The instructor should always be the professional. Students need role models they do not need additional friends. As educators we need to be the professional that we want our students to become. Patricia Scales
Hi Joseph, Cell phones can certainly be used as a cheating tool during testing. Have cell phones put out of sight during test time. Patricia Scales
Hi Roxsie, Yes! Guest speakers are priceless! They bring book theory to real life! Students thoroughly enjoy having guest speakers. Guest speakers are very inspiring. Patricia Scales
Hi Joan, Awesome! Very similar to a calendar. Students need to write down due dates to help them remember what assignments are due. They have to much going on to try to remember everything. Patricia Scales
Hi Sherry, Yes math has to be active learning in order for the students to learn. You never hear a student say math is boring because they are always doing in the subject. You may hear them say that it is hard but never boring. Patricia Scales
Hi Carole, You have it! Never put yourself in harm's way with an angry student. We as educators must protect our safety. Patricia Scales
