About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Mahailey, this is a great example of taking the concepts & adapting them to your unique environment. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Michael, this is a great method as it helps keep you fresh & also incorporates more technology into the classroom which can help engage the students. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Wesley , this is definitely a challenge. I would say the review of the material is a great way to start & as you become more familiar, perhaps you can devote some of that time to studying new teaching methods as well. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Phuong, this is a great reminder to all of us who tend to push & remember to let the student pace themselves while still being challenged. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
dawanna, yes & when we show that we want to help & are open to them, we stand a better chance of having them ask for help when they need it. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Cynthia, you are so right that this is a significant challenge. I like what you've done with the outline as it helps the struggling students without singling them out. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Staci, yes, these examples & sharing of the experiences provide the context that is often lacking from the theoretical concepts. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Phuong, yes, the tried & true learning & memory techniques are a great method to share with these learners who are having more difficulty. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Cynthia, context really is a key to understanding & learning especially unfamiliar words & vocab. This is true for second language learners, struggling learners & really any of us encountering unfamiliar terminology. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
