About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Timothy, this is a good point & one I want to stress: millenials think they can multi-task & they "do it" but many studies have shown that they are not as effective as they think they are. The are used to operating this way, but please don't misunderstand me: they need to be redirected to focusing on one thing at a time. Hopefully that makes sense. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
David, this is a great opportunity & a good reason to try & use more lively music. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Mary, this is a great idea as it helps you grow in your knowledge & helps the students start to network & engage with the professional community. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Susan, yes, this is one of the main reasons I like to tolerate the "pain" of group work. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Juvenal, this really is a key aspect, that they have well thought out work for them to do & they are ready to get to work. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Gail, and it allows you to really focus in on those key points & be sure you are understood. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Susan, it is amazing when we experience this kind of audible feedback; it can definitely help us be aware. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Jo-Anna, I really like your point about identifying why we have the goal in the first place. This is a key step. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Shelly, yes, I really like the idea of different rounds of interviews & having team members participate. Actually one of my jobs came because of the team interview. For whatever reason I didn't impress the management that much but the team members felt strongly about me so management gave me another chance & I got the job. After all, it is the team members who will be working with the employee. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Brittany, these are all great ideas to help with effective presentations. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
