Debra, Thanks. It is always so important to track and measure results. You can see how you are doing and ideally make some new discoveries. What are you doing that makes it easier for grads to get jobs? What employment skills training do they still need? How many interviews were required until the employer said yes? What can you do differently? The data tells a lot of stories. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Debra, It sounds like you are doing great work to get your grads placed. Yes, great idea to encourage students to seek work where the best jobs are. Welders on in demand and there are many career opportunities. You must have a great placement rate since you are taking the pain out of the process. Sounds like what every school should do. thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Debra, Your services sound great. We also believe that placement starts at enrollment and waiting until the last class is definitely too late. It takes a long time for students to learn effective employment skills and to gain the confidence to be successful. We feel that each student needs a personal coach or mentor so that seeking employment is a great experience. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Debra, We certainly agree that good word of mouth is the best way to get your community to view your school as THE place to train and for staffing. Great career services means your staff is spending a good part of their week out in the community talking with current employers and meeting new employers. You goal is getting jobs and also determining how effective your training is. You want to watch for trends in the workplace and new training needs. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Nam, Great that you are reaching out to your community. We think it is important to create a brand. We also feel that marketing dollars need to be spent to reach qualified students. Not everyone is right for your training. It takes measuring results in terms of type of market you are attracting and of course of how many respond. Remember you are measuring on student success, satisfaction, and placement. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Nam, Great. Getting involved in the community is essential if you want your community to see your school as THE place for training and staffing. We suggest that you ask each person on your staff what organizations they belong to. Then help them prepare a presentation about your school to offer at their meetings. Invite community leaders to see your school first-hand. Thanks Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Nam, Program Advisory boards are essential in our opinion. It is a way to engage employers and the community plus other stakeholders in your organization. Used effectively you can determine training need trends for now and the future. TV and radio are always interesting. We think they are costly ways to market and results need to be measured very carefully. We also agree in the engagement of grads and alumni. They can be great resources to increase enrollment, retention, and placement. MaxK offers a course about how to benefit from Alumni. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

Eunide, All the methods you use are good. The key is to measure results. How many leads are you getting from each media? More important, what is the quality. Many school owners discover that it doesn't have to cost a lot of money to market effectively. You just need to do it right. Also it is important to take advantage of relatively free strategies. The best enrollments are from referrals. Are your grads so happy they attended your school that they will tell all their friends, family, and employers to enroll? That doesn't cost anything except great training and customer… >>>

Angela, Great idea. It is important to develop and maintain relationships with current employers and companies that don't yet hire your grads. In fact, the more successful schools are those that have a comprehensive community outreach program. That means one person is assigned to reach out to all levels of the community. This results in increased job listings, externships, awareness of your school as THE source for training and staffing. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Angela, This is good and probably fun. We believe that employment skills training needs to be consistent and comprehensive and teach many many skills. We also see that successful schools often require students to complete career services workshops. Hopefully you can do that and make all the projects fun - like the Elevator Pitch. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
