Maybe an effective approach is to have everyone on staff engaged in the career services and employment training process. It's amazing that many school personnel have no clue about the role of career services. And everyone needs to be promoting it. Susan
Great image. Reminds us all to engage our staff and invite them to be creative and share even what seems like wild ideas. Our employees have answers to most issues. We just need to ask them@ Susan
Sounds like a practical approach. Ideally the use of copiers is going down in this trend towards paperless.
Great plan. We feel that there should be someone on staff who spends most of their time out in the community. In that way the person can develop relationships for placement and externships too. And talk with people about the effectiveness of your curriculum and how work ready your grads are. Employers can also provide clues about new training programs that will be needed. Lots can happen when someone is out there seeing with their own eyes. Thanks, Susan
Sounds very comprehensive. Hopefully all these projects are conducted throughout the time the student is going to school. And are requirements. What kinds of surveys and evaluations are you doing to see the results in terms of placement and quality of job the grad is getting? Thanks, Susan
Very well put. We also think that ongoing career services projects builds confidence. And confidence is not something that happens automatically. We also believe that career services assignments should be mandatory. The goal is a job in the field the grad trained for. Thanks, Susan
Very well said Varsha. What do you think it would look like if the placement department sat next to or in the same area as the admissions people. The fact is that potential students mostly want to know about jobs. That is why they are enrolling. The career services people are essential to success. So why not have them meet up right away. Susan
Yes, budgets are always challenging and a must. Interesting about underspending. Does that happen much? When it does maybe the funds can be allocated to a project that wouldn't be funded but is essential. Thanks, Susan
It is interesting about plans. Things happen that we don't expect. You were lucky. And hopefully everyone involved in planning at your school has learned a lot. One view of a plan is to know the steps to where you want to go. Also to anticipate options and opportunities. So when surprises do happen, and they will, you are not caught off guard too much. Thanks, Susan
Very creative and forward thinking,Dwayne. With this strategy do you find it easier to hire the right people? And do they stay and contribute by working within this environment. Thanks, Susan
