Matthew, This is a great indirect, pre-assessment method. I'm sure that you are able to receive candid feedback from your students, in this format. Tremayne Simpson

Stephen, This is an effective method for ensuring student engagement. In addition, "walking around" the classroom during lecture is a great way to make sure that all students are actively participating and paying attention. Tremayne Simpson

Adrienne, Are there any administrative plans to add computer labs to your building? Tremayne Simpson
David, I agree. In addition, in order to ensure that students are responding to their classmates, it is a good idea to require that each student respond to another student's post (can be added to the assignment guidelines). Tremayne Simpson

Peggy, I agree. In addition, the "back pocket questions" can also be used in situations where the class discussions are "stalled". A few, well-placed questions can spark student interest and "ignite" a meaningful class discussion. Tremayne Simpson
Erin, This is an excellent example of how "standardized" course content can be customized, in order to provide the student with a unique learning experience. Sometimes a subtle, personal touch to class lectures, assignments, etc. can increase the student engagement with the course and assist with their retention of information. Generally, personalized analogies can have a lasting effect on students. For instance, I have had many former students remind me about a specific example that I used during a lecture, that took place several years ago. Tremayne Simpson
Nelia, Do you use a formal/informal method for assessing your student's learning style or do you get an idea, based on classroom interactions? Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
Scott, I agree. In general, students can see when an instructor is not putting forth their best instructional effort. When they perceive that this is the case, they will repeat the behavior. Tremayne Simpson
shari, I agree. Collaborative learning should be implemented, whenever possible. I am an advocate of "peer-induced" learning and I feel that viable and well-placed group assignments can positively impact the classroom learning environment. Tremayne Simpson
