Diane, There are several software programs that can be used to record live action demonstrations, that can be used as "podcasts" for delivered course lectures. Many of our instructors use podcasts to deliver additional information, that is not discussed in their lectures. Tremayne Simpson
Diane, Excellent points! It is important that instructors use the Learning Taxonomy when developing their lesson plans, in order to make sure that the assignments are aligning correctly and that they are assigned in the appropriate order. Instructors cannot create assignments that ask for a student to apply a concept, prior to fully understanding it. Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
Diane, Do you ever have students that make suggestions for assignment revision? If the concern is justifiable, what would be the procedure for changing pre-populated assignments/topics? Tremayne Simpson
Ann, This is a great, administrative approach to documenting lesson plans. Sharing the plans on a common drive can also make it easier to conduct course observations. Tremayne Simpson
Cynthia, Each class presents a new set of challenges and experiences for an instructor. With documented lesson plans (with detailed notes) an instructor can compare and contrast previous sections of the class and use them as a "base" for future course revisions. Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
Ann, Thank you for sharing this with the group. If time permits, it is good idea to add "surprises" to the course lesson plan. Surprise activities/discussions can provide the class with a periodic "spark" and it is always exciting to see the student reactions. Tremayne Simpson
Diane, I agree with this approach. Instructors have to ensure that there questions are "open-ended" and enable their students to elaborate on their prior knowledge. I typically use a "Socratic" questioning method, in order to assess my students' approach to critical thinking. Tremayne Simpson
Kym, This is a great question. From my understanding, the field of Human Resources is rapidly changing with the advancements in technology (many of the processes have been "streamlined" and automated). Are you a member of any Human Resources organizations? If so, there should be periodical publications that discuss current events in the field and can be used as a source of professional development. Tremayne Simpson
TIMOTHY, How did you students react to the animation concept that you introduced to them in the Physiology class? Tremayne Simpson
John, What are some of the ideas that you have to use the Learning Taxonomy to develop your future lesson plans and course activities? Tremayne Simpson
