Delmar, Excellent analogy! I completely agree...learning objectives are created in a "prescriptive-format", in that they are specifically tailored to the necessary subject-knowledge for the student. Tremayne Simpson
Delmar, I agree that it is time consuming to document lesson plans. However, you will appreciate your effort once you have taught the course multiple times. When you are a veteran instructor, you will only need to update and refresh your lessons, which will simplify the planning portion of the course. Tremayne Simpson

Linda, I agree. During the "debriefing" segment, I usually receive interesting questions that may prompt me to provide more information on the subject. Also, I usually have questions for myself such as: "Did I clearly explain this concept?" or "I wonder how many of the students did not understand that theory?" Tremayne Simpson
Marshall, Thanks for sharing this method with the board. I am an advocate of pre and post, diagnostic assessments, because I feel that it is the best way to measure skill growth within your students. Also, they are able to understand their progress when their results are explained to them, after the course has concluded. Tremayne Simpson
Paul, Excellent point. I believe that learning objectives should be constructed with a cohort of the instructors that teach the course, so that they are able to brainstorm and discuss reasoning, with their peers. Hearing multiple perspectives regarding the subject, can also impact subject-matter knowledge, amongst the cohort. Tremayne Simpson
Rochelle, Do your students have to demonstrate application of the material, by performing "hands on" exercises with the audio equipment? Tremayne Simpson
TIMOTHY, I agree. It is also important that instructional planning is based on the provided learning objectives. Lesson plans should not be developed, without a thorough review of the course learning objectives, in order to ensure that the class is aligned properly with the desired outcomes. Tremayne Simpson

Rochelle, Do you provide your students with a written survey or do they provide their answers to you in verbal format? Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
jamie, I agree. However, sometimes the material that is discussed "off topic" is prevalent to the course and could added to the class lesson plan for future discussion. Tremayne Simpson
james, As I mentioned earlier in the post, students are typically intrigued by the opportunity to receive an "authentic" learning experience. Anytime an instructor can present an example from their desired field or discuss uncommonly known facts about the subject, the students will tend to be more engaged, during the lecture.
