Jacqueline, You have brought up an excellent point. Book review is a very important task in regards to course curriculum building. If instructors are not able to connect with the majority of presented content in the textbook, it will be difficult for them to encourage the students to find use in book. Furthermore, there could be contradictions in lectured vs. textbook methods or theories. Tremayne Simpson
Seth, I also use a similar method, during the first session/week of the course. After the discussion with the students I am able to make revisions to my lesson plans and possibly add additional activities based on my findings. Tremayne Simpson
Theresa , This is a great method for "breaking the ice with your students". Students tend to be more engaged when they are asked "self-directed" questions, that enable them to discuss their personal experiences. Tremayne Simpson
Jesus, Thanks for sharing this information with the group. I have used Prezi and I agree that it is more engaging for students, due to the "fresh" approach to the presentation format. PowerPoint is still a viable presentation resource, however it is a great idea to try new software, whenever possible. Tremayne Simpson
Jesus, Sites similar to YouTube are commonly "blocked" in proprietary, education institutions, due to the possibility of copyright infringement. However, instructors are able to send video clip links to their students or post them on the student portal. Tremayne Simpson
Lev, It is a great idea to post course content on the student portal. This "forces" students to become comfortable with the available technology and it is a great way to continue discussions outside of class (via the discussion board) and to conduct short surveys. Tremayne Simpson
Roberto, What instructional resources are you currently using to engage students in the class? Tremayne Simpson
Joy, I agree. In addition, homogeneously delivered courses are "dull" to most instructors as well. Delivering repeated content, without the opportunity of facilitating a diverse, learning session can take the "fun" out of the entire instructional experience. Tremayne Simpson
Michael, Now that you have an understanding in regards to the Learning Taxonomy, what are some ideas that you have to implement the concept into your course lesson planning? Tremayne Simpson
James , I agree with your point. Students are apt to perceiving information in a sequential format, therefore it is important that lesson plans follow that structure, in order to maximize student comprehension. Developing lesson plans that are completely in tandem with the Learning Taxonomy, can ensure a structured approach to the course. Tremayne Simpson
